Adult Novice Program

Once you have completed one of the ARC Learn To Row Sessions, and wish to continue with the sport of rowing, you will be eligible to participate in the Annapolis Rowing Club’s 2010 Adult Novice Rowing Program.

It is divided into two sessions, and you are encouraged to participate in both sessions to receive the maximum benefit of the experience of rowing with individuals at your same skill level.  Our experience is that for new rowers to make significant improvements in their rowing skills, they need to attend at least half of the Novice Program classes. This experience will allow you to gain experience on the water, and prepare you for the various programs offered at ARC.

Rowing is a sport that involves the entire body, especially the legs.  Boat and oar carries are also an integral part of each practice that will require some upper body strength, approx. 35 lbs.

Novices Erging Together

2008 Novice Team practices their technique together on ther erg.  How often do you see people smiling and erging?  From left: Lizzie, Liz, Lona, Ariel, Nina and Pam, with Liz C. standing behind giving pointers.

If you are unable to squat or put weight on your knees or have concerns about your participation in boat carries, please contact us to discuss.  Please note, before starting any exercise program consult your physician or qualified health professional.

Session dates:

Session 1 - July 19th, 2010 - September 8th, 2010

Session 2 - September 13th, 2010 - Late October/Early November (tbd based on temperature and daylight)

Practice times:

Monday and Wednesday evenings - 6:00pm - 8:30pm

Saturday mornings - 7:30am - 9:30am

The cost for each session is $270.00.  The program fee includes coaching each night.  As a result, the program size is limited to a maximum of 36 participants for each session.  Spaces will be filled on a first come, first serve basis.  You will be notified via email upon acceptance into the program.  Understandably, once the participant begins the program session, no refunds will be available.

Practices will be held at our new location at the Gingerville Yachting Center off of Rt. 2.

Registration for the ARC Novice Program - Session 1 - 7/19/2010 is now open!!!
