The Annapolis Rowing Club (ARC) Vets Row is an innovative, community-based wellness program designed to serve veterans, active duty service members, and their families living in Ann Arundel County and the greater Annapolis region. At its core, Vets Row uses the discipline and camaraderie of competitive rowing to build physical resilience and mental strength--and then extends that foundation into a holistic menu of evidence-based therapies.
Once launched, the Vets Row program will offer health-centered activities, such as:
-
Sweep rowing--team-based on-water rowing that builds aerobic fitness, strength, and unit cohesion
-
Sculling--individual on-water rowing that develops self-reliance and fine motor coordination
-
Indoor training on rowing machines (ergs)--provides year-round training
-
Yoga--structured movement and breathwork
-
Meditation--guided mindfulness and meditation practice
Who can participate in Vets Row?
Initial enrollment for Vets Row will focus on veterans identified through partnerships with the Veterans Administration Maryland Health Care System, local veteran service organizations, and referrals from Walter Reed. Family members of enrolled veterans will also be eligible to participate in select programming, reinforcing the household units as a site of healing.
